💥Pre-Surgery ACL💥 . Me and this lacrosse player had 3 important goals for today’s session: 1️⃣ improve end range flexion (video 1 and 2: self administered passive range, and body weighted rockers) 2️⃣ activation of hamstring and quads (video 3: banded push through knee extensions) 3️⃣ help eliminate the last bit of joint swelling . I believe it’s so important to leave goals with athletes to keep in mind for their home program. Finally able to get some weights in the mix. . . Little over 9 weeks and I am finally able to get some leg weight into the rotation, it’s not much one side weaker than the otter but it is progress👊 . . I don’t normally post training videos but wanted to share with you all what 4 years post “breaking your entire body” rehab now looks like. Repost @keitho_strength_rehab_ptc • Here are some exercises to strengthen the intrinsic muscles of her feet 🦶🏼 Elevated squats/Trap Bar Deadlift Single leg balance off step in a loaded position • Goblet Squats on a lateral incline to encourage pronation/supination control from the muscles in her lower leg and feet (we swapped around and worked opposite side also) 👣 These exercises are perfect for you if you want to stimulate the muscles controlling your feet, if you’re in the latter stages of recovering from recent foot and/or tendon surgery around your ankle... After a shoulder injury, it is so important to work on restoring stability to the shoulder joint (including the shoulder blade, the "scapula"). You may have heard that the shoulder is a "ball and socket" joint : which, if you can picture it, means you need stability of that "ball" (which is actually the head of your humerus or your upper arm bone) all the way around 360° in the "socket" (which is actually a part of your scapula). Your shoulder is able to move in so many planes of movement that we need to do our best to get good strength and stability in all of those planes. Try this exercise on your belly (prone position) - arms reached out at shoulder height (the 'T' position). Thumb up, and lift the arm up towards the ceiling. To Plank or not to Plank 🤷🏻‍♀️ .... how to Plank properly * * There is no doubt that the Plank is one of the most aspiring exercises (from Pilates beginners to gym buffs) who doesn’t love a plank competition with their mates?! 🙋🏻‍♀️ but does it work?? * * Done correctly, it can strengthen your gluts, deep abdominals, quads, shoulders and many more muscle groups quite effectively. * * However, you need to ensure you are doing it correctly to avoid injury, specifically to your lower back * * How to Plank safety: 1. Start in 4 point kneeling 2. Bend your elbows, place your forearms on the floor, ensuring your elbows are directly under your shoulders 3. Tuck your toes under and take your legs out straight behind you 4. Ensure a neutral spine, or even very slight hip flexion (bend at the hips) don’t let your lower back arch 5. For those of you that are congratulating me on making it the whole year- thank you!! It’s been a rough ol’ year filled with ups and downs and a heck of a lot of t3’s. I made it. Wanna know my secret? I fought like hell and worked my ass off. Quite literally. The gym was my saving grace. On days I did not go there before my work day started I struggled physically with stiff and spasming legs and back. I got to loosen my body up so that I could walk more than shuffle, smile and laugh more than cry, and it kept my mental state in check. 5+ years of chronic pain. I still feel pain every day. Like on the dumb ass 1-10 scale it’s about a 4 on a good day. But what matters most is that I made it. I had some sort of life this year for the first time in a long time. I choose to live through my pain. Because if not I’m not really living. Also if you see me face to face don’t mention it. I’m so damn exhausted that I will most likely burst into tears. Not happy or sad or pain tears. Just ‘I’m so damn exhausted tears’ that are just waiting for any excuse to bubble over. Thanks to all who believed in I could do it even when I didn’t. And to those who helped me get through it. Thanks y’all. Bring on summer vacay. We are now more than ever utilising a shared decision model to firstly, provide the athlete with unbiased information to guide and support the decision making that ultimately the athlete will choose.  Whether this be a return to sport or the decision to retire from competitive sport it is entirely a decision chosen by the athlete. . . So how do we begin a rehabilitative journey with return to sport? . . Introduce the idea and what considerations may have to be taken to achieve RTS within the first session. This allows for the individual to begin their own personal understanding of what they may need to achieve for RTS and the goals they should be visualising. . . From a clinician stand point, education and reassurance is vital not only at the initial consultation but throughout. Provide the most recent evidence-based information to allow the athlete to make an educated and informed decision. . .
