Just over a week ago I made it back inside a yoga studio since blowing out the left side of my body (apparently I don’t do things by halves). A lot of healing, a lot of patience, some modification, some heat and the centuries old practice of moving the body to the breath unlocked the next level of rehab. I’m not back at this pose yet (heck, I might not ever get there) but the commitment to chipping away on the daily in the pursuit of micro improvements over time is what holds true. When the foot rolls inward, it is forced out of its normal position. This causes one or more of the ligaments on the lateral side of the ankle to stretch or tear 🦶 . There may be swelling, bruising, pain, or loss of range of motion. You may or may not be able to walk on it. There even may be a fracture. All of these issues are dependant on the severity of the injury and how much stretching or tearing occurs . Your Athletic Therapist will be able to tell you how severe your ankle sprain is and if any follow up imaging needs to occur. The rehabilitation process is not always simple and without complications, so it is important not to ignore it. PAIN FREE SQUATS!! The most rewarding thing for me as a therapist is seeing the face of clients when they realise the impossible is possible. Mia’s face today has made my week already. It’s been a very long journey for this young lady.. 9 months ago was the last time Mia was able to squat pain free. 8 weeks ago today I had a total left knee replacement surgery. At the time I was only able to bend my knee to 80 degrees & I had a permanent 20 degree bend, meaning that I couldn't straighten my leg. I was bone on bone and had to have my patellar tendon patched because it had been torn for who knows how long...TODAY I was able to bend my knee to 76 degrees (just 4 short of where I was), my leg is straight and my foot is flat for the first time in about 12 years. I'm emotional and greatful to be able to get to this point. #priorities #selfcare #goals #rehabgoals #lifegoals

Pain is often described as sharp and burning, occuring on the outside of the knee that tends to be worse when running or descending stairs. . The ITB is a thick band of fascia that extends from the hip (attaching to gluteus maximus and tensor fascia latae muscles) to the knee and has elements of both tendons and ligaments. . Muscle weakness in the hip abductors (muscles that move the leg out to the side) has been associated with the development of ITBS and strengthening of these muscles is the focus in the exercises provided. . 1️⃣ - Captain Morgans 2️⃣ - side plank with hip abduction 3️⃣ - glute bridge with clamshells 4️⃣ - banded side walks .
