Working towards doing pull-ups with dead hangs - holding for about 30 seconds 4/5 times, and trying out assisted pull ups for the first time. 🌈 Why haven’t I heard how awkward assisted pull-ups are to get into. I needed help to spread the band so my second knee could get in... 😂 🌈 But I’m so excited that my gym has a functional bit now with assault bikes, pull-up bars and a skier machine. Progress, no matter how small, is still progress. This is so hard, so very hard but I am determined to do it! Some days I don't want to practice (so some days I don't!) but the work I'm doing away from the bar is helping (my shoulder presses and press ups are getting stronger). Last week I could barely string three of these eccentric pull ups together, now I can do four (the 5th was a little speedy!) and my first one was super good I thought! I try a mix of neutral and prone grip (I feel the neutral grip is more likely to be successful). I also do dead to active hangs which would be my attempt at a full pull up anyway and I still struggle to feel my back engaging so this needs work.p I burnout fast (and my grip gives up) which means I can only give this 5ish minutes at a time. Headed to the gym without a plan today which could have resulted in dangerous wandering, but luckily @deadliftlotten allowed me join in on her #gunsochgains program from @styrkebyran I was jumping in on week 7, so was thinking I’d have to miss out a lot, but with the help of bands and lighter weights I managed to see it through to the end! 9 sets of 3 pull ups and then 3 sets of 15reps for the other exercises has definitely left me feeling the pump 💪🏼 . You know you taught them well when you are on a bike ride and they ask to stop and play on the monkey bars! They are both pretty good and just hanging in there!! Up until recently I've always had a really busy job and never had so much time off in the school holidays. Time off has then felt pressured to do something fun, which is often then forced and tiring. Wanna learn Pullups ? Same here ! Studies say that focusing on the eccentric, or the negative (deceleration of force) is what truely builds strength. To build up to the pullup, you must master these pull(downs)ups. 4-5 sets●5 reps●5-10 sec each A mind-muscle connection is key, truely think of the lats as your doing this. Dont let anything distract you. Other muscles will want to take over, stay focused and you will get there. Add this to your back or pull day, after 4-6 weeks, TRY TO ROCK YOUR 1st pullup.
