With such an amazing summer, prepping for a comp right in the middle of January was never going to be easy. Despite Christmas, new year and school holidays, I’m proud to say I’ve only missed one session and still created amazing holiday memories with my little family. Six pack Sunday’s 💪🏼👊🏼💥 I’m often asked “How often do you train abs?”... my reply is always the same “Hardly ever!” 🤷🏼‍♀️ I actually can’t remember the last time I trained my abs! Lol (true story)... The key to a flat, toned stomach, is all down to your diet. You can do sit ups and leg raises and whatever else you’re trying, till your blue in the face, if you’re eating the wrong foods, you simply won’t get the result your after! 😏 The easiest thing I ever did, was switch up my diet, and I’ve never had a leaner, more toned body because of it, even prior to having my 3 kids! 😍💪🏼 If you want help to get those results you’ve been wishing and working for... “Losing & finding my Mojo at the gym.... 🏋️‍♀️🏋️‍♀️” For the last few weeks, I kinda lost my mojo at the gym.... I worked hard when I had a PT session 😊 💪 but left to my own devices, I really only did the bits and bobs I fancied.... My training programme sheet was reduced to the date, a ✅ & a 😊! AKA - I came, I wore Lycra, I faffed about on the Prowler, I chatted (a lot) 🤗. I had reached my first & second goal - 1) be able to put my arm up straight after my frozen shoulder 2) pass my Lifeguard qualification & had lost sight of what was next. I began to lose my Mojo & I totally avoided deadlifts. ☹️ My default position was to berate myself that I was The Worst Lifter in the History of All Time... 😠😠 I just felt worse... So I decided to speak a little more kindly to myself, recognise what I’d already achieved, remember my Why, ask for help & start again. 😊🏋️‍♀️ And yay! It worked! My Mojo is back! I have some new goals (alongside all the important osteoporosis & healthy ageing needs @cornishbirdindorset & @hergardengym share so eloquently). 💗😊 I’m learning more about how to increase my programme (sorry about ALL the questions Pete! 🤦🏼‍♀️) & above all, it’s really really fun. 🤗🤗🏋️‍♀️🏋️‍♀️ Of course I still chat lots, but I actually lift now too! Oh and whoop at the end of a set it seems! 😉🏋️‍♀️ How do you get your Mojo back when it goes awandering? Sunday Funday…and the start of half term, anyone got anything exciting planned with their littles? 😆 Yesterday I started talking about warming up 🔥 and today I’m going to look at that in a little more detail…you KNOW I love a bit of science…☺️ When you're pressed for time, or just eager to get started, it can be tempting to skip a warm-up. But warming up before you exercise, especially before engaging in strenuous activity, has very real physiological, and often psychological, benefits. So just what happens to your body when you warm up, let’s see: 1️⃣Muscle temperature increases: Warm muscles both contract more forcefully and relax more quickly, reducing the risk of overstretching and injury. Your overall body temperature also increases, which improves muscle elasticity which can enhance speed and strength. 2️⃣Blood temperature rises: The temperature of blood increases as it travels through the muscles. As blood temperature goes up, the binding of oxygen to haemoglobin weakens so oxygen is more readily available to working muscles, which may improve endurance. 3️⃣Blood vessels dilate: This increases blood flow and puts less stress on the heart. 4️⃣The range of motion increases: This allows your large joints (such as your shoulders and knees) to reach their maximum movement potential. By NO means is the left picture my 'heaviest' and the right my 'smallest' I've been teeny tiny AND heavier. This one here is to show you how lifting weights has changed my SHAPE. At the time of both pictures i was NOT doing any cardio. JUST lifting. Over 12 months i went from lifting weights 3 x a week to 4 to now 5-6. Hey y’all ❤️! Happy weeeeekend! I hope you all have a bit of fun and a bit of r&r ahead of you? The boys have football as usual this morning, then we’re taking them out for their first Chinese later...could be interesting 🙈! Thank you so much for your kind words yesterday, they really do mean so much to me 🤗, and it is thanks to the support of people like you that I have managed to move forward with my work these last couple of years…now the real work starts! 💪🏼 Anyways, we’ve been talking about ways to overcome that fear of getting into the gym, or worse still, the ‘man side’ of the gym...but we’re not calling it that any more are we?! 😉 All joking aside though, we’ve made the move 💪🏼 (well done us because it’s a BIG step for some of us 🙋🏼‍♀️) but what are we going to do now we’re there? That’s what I’m going to be looking at next, and the very first thing actually applies to ANY sort of exercise ANYWHERE, and that is…a warm up. Simples maybe, but have you ever stopped to think what ACTUALLY happens when you ‘warm up’? 🤔 As I think most of us know, warming up is super important whatever we’re doing if we want to minimise the risk of injury, and it is thought to have both psychological and physiological benefits. Next I’m going to be looking at PRECISELY what changes warming up 🔥 brings about, and then I’ll be talking you through some warm up tips and looking at the kinds of warm up routines I put into practice before I train.💪🏼 For now though, enjoy your day! So I’ve decided to keep my announcement under wraps for just a liiiiitle bit longer 🤐…but I thought I’d share this…☺️ Any idea what goes on behind the scenes at a photoshoot 📸…nope, well neither did I until last weekend! As a normal(ish 😉) Mum I can’t believe quite how quickly my life seems to be moving at the moment 🌪, but I’m loving every minute of it, despite the (many 🤪) challenges I’m facing along the way. Set your goals and work damn hard to achieve them but be careful, don’t equate hard work with self punishment, they’re not the same. . Treat yourself with respect. This includes staying away from the magic pills, powders, wraps, detoxes and cleansers. . Stop trying to do it the quick and easy way and start doing it the right way, the sustainable way, the healthy way. Trust the process and see the lasting results - Jem x
