OMG, soooo tasty and filling, I think I'm in love 😍 . I didn't post yesterday as I had a really stressful day traveling to a job interview in Birmingham (UK). I did try to stay hydrated at least. Had a coffee around 11:30 today as I think the coffee withdrawal was making me feel worse. Follow the rules, do what you're told, and be quiet? NEVER! 🙅‍♀️ ⁣ ⁣ When it comes to my health, I'm not the type to blindly follow nutrition advice/rules unless I truly understand why I'm doing it. ⁣ ⁣ But I wasn't always like this. Like many people, I used to follow the strict rules of the diet-du-jour I was trying out. Because I didn't fully understand what I was doing (I just knew I couldn't eat this or that), I was always worried if I was being "good" or "bad".⁣ ⁣ Result: I felt stressed, wanted to quit after starting, and saw my self-confidence around my ability to make good choices plummet...⁣ ⁣ Can you relate? 🤷‍♀️⁣ ⁣ Fortunately, my mentality around food has evolved and here's what works for me and my clients now:⁣ ⁣ Instead of blindly following rules, understand WHY you're told to do something in a certain way. ⁣ ⁣ In my practice, I don't simply tell people to stop eating something (it makes people confused and feel deprived). Instead, I explain how different foods affect the hormones that regulate hunger/satiety and weight loss/gain. ⁣ ⁣ Once they understand the science behind cravings, weight gain, and fatigue, my clients can then make much better decisions for themselves. (So much more empowering than me simply giving them instructions to follow.)⁣ ⁣ They understand which foods to favor, and which ones will make them feel their best.⁣ ⁣ And if ever they've indulged a bit too much after a rich meal, instead of feeling like they've "cheated" and broken the rules, they forgo the "I've been bad" drama, and instead focus on how to readjust themselves in the following days. ⁣ ⁣ And NOT in a punishing or detox-y kind of way. It's simply about finding back their balance, using the tools I've taught them.⁣ ⁣ And you can't do that when you don't understand what you're doing and blindly follow rules someone else gave you.⁣ ⁣ Take-home message: if you're following a new way of eating, make sure you understand the advice you're given. Read books on the topic, or ask your coach to thoroughly explain the benefits. And then use that information in a way that EMPOWERS you to make the best decisions for your body. 💪

Fun(?) Fact: Before this week, I had never tried egg salad. What can I say, I've always been a bit squeemish about mayo. But I was looking for a dairy free way to liven up my eggs, found a roasted garlic "aioli" and the rest is history - I really like it! So anyway, here's my giant post-gym dinner for #whatiatewednesday. It was ready to go in 5 minutes (thanks to hard boiling the eggs and cutting up the veggies in advance) ********* Egg salad for 1: -2 eggs -1 tbsp roasted garlic mayo -1/2 tsp Dijon mustard ********* I paired it with 2 pickle spears and 2 slices of keto/paleo rye toast from @elanaspantry. I did a post on it yesterday, but tl;dr it's seriously great. My original plan was to do an open face sandwich, but honestly I like them both separately better. ********* And of course I had a giant salad: -arugula -shredded watermelon radish (my favorite kind of radish) -half a small bell pepper -a teenie tiny avocado -goat cheese (goat cheese is one of the most easily digested because it is low lactose and has A2 casein, not A1 like in cow milk). -@primalkitchenfoods Lemon Tumeric Dressing ********* Swipe to see my macros for the whole day! I'm a bit low on calories, but was a bit over yesterday so it all balances out. It can be tough to eat enough on workout days, or to eat little enough on less active ones.
