I think one of the things that draws me to teaching expectant parents the skill of mindfulness is that I know it’s not just preparing them for labor. It’s preparing them for those moments when the baby is up at 3am and won’t go back to sleep. It’s preparing them for the frustrations when breastfeeding isn’t going so smoothly. It’s preparing them for the irritability and fussiness babies go through when they are teething. It’s preparing them for the toddler meltdowns in the grocery store. 🌀 🌀 All the research in mindfulness for childbirth and parenting shows that parents who cultivate this skill and continue with it have less postpartum depression and anxiety, have happier babies, and both parents and children exhibit more resilience to life’s challenges. 🌀 🌀 But what really motivates me in teaching this skill to parents is that I know their daily practice of mindfulness sets the example for their children, those children are the beneficiaries of happier, more satisfied, less stressed out parents, and then those children grow up to be more content, well-adjusted, successful adults. I don’t just enjoy pizza and cupcakes now that I’m pregnant. I thoroughly enjoyed them before 👌🏽 Who doesn’t love them? BUT I do try to: 1. Prep my meals every Sunday to fuel my bod with clean eats while focusing on portions. 2. Look at food as fuel, not comfort. 3. Enjoy those treats in moderation—without the guilt! It took a long time to get past the guilt part and the diet mindset. But you can do it too, sister. And I’ll hold you accountable to that!
“Are you even pregnant you aren’t showing yet”... girl I promise you I am a she’s just hiding 🙈 here’s a little #TBT it seems like just yesterday he was giving me a high five when I shared the news that I was pregnant, now here we are almost 1/2 way through this pregnancy!!! As for an update, the reason I haven’t updated much is because there’s not much to update on! Im experiencing very few ‘pregnancy symptoms’ and I’m very thankful that pregnancy has been fantastic so far! I went into pregnancy terrified because I had only heard the hard side! I literally woke up daily my entire first trimester thinking “well today’s got to be the day I start feeling like complete crap” because that’s what the internet made pregnancy out to be and I get it, it is that way for some, but for some it’s really not bad! I’ve been approved to continue all physical activity thank the lord because without fitness idk what I would do, it’s become such a huge part of my day to day life! Nutrition hasn’t changed much, yes I’ve upped my calories a tad to nurture baby per what my doctor recommends but really it’s not much that you are supposed to increase. Idk where eating for two originated but it makes me laugh because baby is so so so small. I rest more than usual I guess growing another human makes you kinda tired haha but I’m very thankful I’m able to work from home and rest when needed! It’s really made this whole journey so enjoyable and I know when baby comes it will be so special to be home with her all day! I guess when I thought about pregnancy before getting pregnant I just figured that as soon as I was pregnant my life would be flipped upside down. but I’m just over here living my life per usual with no real changes in my day to day life yet but I know that will change when baby comes don’t worry I’m not that naïve!! If I’m being honest, I don’t really feel pregnant yet... I’m anxiously awaiting the day I do but until then I’m just going to keep on keeping on! I’m curious, what are some of your baby must haves? I guess I should start making a registry and shopping sometime soon 🙉🙈
#ThrowBackThursday to my #KetoPregnancy 🤰🥰 I delivered my #KetoBaby in October 2018. I gained a total of 22lbs and my baby boy was born happy and healthy, weighting 7lbs5oz. Since then I have reached my prepregnancy weight and I have continued the keto lifestyle. I breastfeed without any issues of supply. If I ever feel supply is dropping I increase calories through fat. Mama and baby are doing great! . . #31weekspregnant 51 days to go until this amazing #ketopregnancy is over. This has been hands down my easiest #pregnancy. I feel great and I'm happy with the way I look despite having a ton stretch marks from my first 3 pregnancies. I never would have dreamed of wearing a 2 piece to the beach or pool before, but this time I'm proud with the way I kept my weight under control so let the world see my tiger stripes. With this pregnancy I was #keto from the start. I told my doctor I was consuming less than 20grams of net carbs per day and he was 100% supportive of my #ketolifestyle as long as I gained weight in my second trimester (and I did). I'm 5'0", I started this pregnancy at 118lbs, I currently weigh 133lbs, and I've felt great this entire pregnancy - high energy levels, no nausea or vomiting, and even my mood seems more stable compared to what I experienced with my last 3 pregnancies. Keto isn't a diet for me, it's a lifestyle. I keto for the mental health benefits and anything else is a plus, so I plan to continue a #ketodiet after pregnancy.

My Husband and I have started a habit of reading books...well he started it and now I’m following his lead. He bought me a Kindle for Christmas to get me to read more. Well, it’s finally working. 😂 . . . I’m reading Atomic Habits by James Clear and it is changing my life!❤️ . . . I have always been a person that dreamed big, that wanted more for my life. But I’m also the person that struggles with staying consistent and following through. . . . After a conversation with my Husband about how this struggle is affecting our family life, I decided to take action by reading about how to get better. What I didn’t realize was the amount of actual “action” I would be taking because this book is not just about learning about habits, but how to actually take action and change your habits. . . . I have seen such a positive change in my life since taking each chapter and applying it to my everyday. The key is to take it step by step. But as you know, I like to dream big, so expect some crazy changes in me in the future 😉
Gut & Behavior: Can gut health influence your brain, mood, and temperament? . . It can—and it can affect your child in the same way. New research out of the University of Turku shows that different types of gut bacteria in young infants are associated with different temperament traits! . . For example, after analyzing the gut diversity and microbiome of 303 infants, the researchers discovered that infants who had greater levels of the bacterium genus Bifidobacterium in their gut at age 2.5 months were more likely to exhibit positive emotions like happiness and delight by the time they were six months old. A positive temperament is also associated with an extrovert personality type. Likewise, children who had greater gut microbiome diversity were LESS likely to have negative emotionality and reduced fear reactivity. The authors published their findings in May 2019 volume of the peer-reviewed journal Brain, Behavior, and Immunity. While more research needs to be done to help figure out the exact relationship between gut health and temperament (cause and effect vs. just correlation?), the early work is super interesting! The researchers ascribe these changes to something called the "gut-brain axis," defined as a "functional relationship between gut flora and central nervous system via the nervous, immune and endocrine systems." And as we're waiting for more studies to be done, it's perfectly reasonable for us parents to do everything we can to optimize our children's gut health. . . Work to provide your children with nutritious gut-healthy foods, explore kid-friendly supplements including probiotics and omega-3 fatty acids, and if possible, optimize YOUR gut health during pregnancy to boost your future kiddos' immune health and microbiota. I’m pregnant, not handicapped. ⠀ ⠀ I am excited to continue to document my pregnancy because it seems that we are misled to believe that we are more fragile than we really are!⠀ ⠀ I think it can make us lose focus on one of the most important components (of a healthy pregnancy,) keeping ourselves physically and mentally strong.⠀ ⠀ I think too many women are not participating in regular exercise during their pregnancy because of outdated information and fear of harm. I was one of those people during my first pregnancy, and I gained an unhealthy amount of weight, and mentally did not feel good. ⠀ ⠀ When you know better, do better! Now I am aware that remaining sedentary during pregnancy is associated with significantly more complications, such as gestational diabetes, high blood pressure, toxemia, among other things. ⠀ ⠀ I also know there is nothing I can do to harm this little bean in my tummy, and not only do doctors recommend you workout during pregnancy, but they even recommend you START working out even if you weren’t before. It went from “working out isn’t safe” to “you can continue doing what you are doing if you were doing it before becoming pregnant”, to “even if you weren’t doing it before, you should start.” We’ve come along way!⠀ ⠀ 20 weeks pregnant and I’m still feeling good and full of energy! Am I still gaining weight? Of course! Do I mentally feel good and strong? Yes! Will I bounce back quicker postpartum? Time will tell! How much longer can I keep my abs?? No one knows! 🤣⠀ ⠀ Did any of you notice a difference in pregnancy and the way you felt when you kept up exercise opposed to one when you didn’t?

Lunge before you lunch! Keeping fit and strong is essential for every pregnant mum. Lunges are one of the best forms of keeping your legs toned and strong. _______________________ Make sure you are adequately warmed up before you do your lunges. Beginners: 2 sets of 15 repetitions with 60 seconds break. Intermediate: 2-4 sets of 20-25 reps with 60-90 seconds break. If you are in the third trimester, do what you can without discomfort in the pubic area, and also avoiding sciatica in this last trimester. Some mums will aggravate the sciatic nerve when they do lunges, so listen to your body and adjust accordingly. #lunges

That’s fun 😒), I AM committed to drinking my superfoods daily, working out 4-6+ times a week, and making overall healthy choices (along with some fun ones too 😋) for me and my growing bump. ⠀ ⠀ Second of all, comparison is the biggest killer of happiness. So if you’re here scrolling on Instagram craving the health, fitness, life or whatever someone else is projecting on their highlight reel...STOP 👏 IT👏 NOW👏⠀ ⠀ Inspiration? YES. Motivation? YES.
