I know it looks like Iโ€™m just on holiday all the time but the reality is Iโ€™m fortunate enough to call this my job. Like any job it has itโ€™s stresses, long hours and boring bits and doesnโ€™t come without its share of paperwork. Donโ€™t forget all the long haul flights and cramped overnight bus rides as a stinker of a commute too! However, comments and feedback like this are why it is so much more than the highlight reel you see on the surface. To be able to impact on peopleโ€™s lives and experiences like that and open their eyes to the world offers more of a sense of reward and fulfilment than any job Iโ€™ve ever had. Thank you to all of my lovely group for a great trip! ๐Ÿฅฐ๐ŸŒ

The jungle can be a moody mistress at times but always beautiful nonetheless ๐Ÿ˜

Iโ€™ve said it before and Iโ€™ll say it again, there is something very humbling about returning to a place that featured heavily in a pivotal moment in your life. The last time I was here I felt like a very broken shadow of myself seeking respite and recovery from an inescapable pain. Being here now shows me more than ever just how much stronger and more resilient I feel as a person, mentally, emotionally and physically. Sure there will always still be room for improvement, but Iโ€™m very happy with the path Iโ€™ve carved out since the initial decision to come here and how much itโ€™s forced me to grow. Long may it continue. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ Thank you #TNQ #tropicalnorthqueensland

When youโ€™re so fed up of drunk, noisy backpackers and hostel dorms you move into the woods instead. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ North Queenslandโ€™s wet tropical rainforest is the oldest in the world, with roots dating 120 million years, once home to dinosaurs! You donโ€™t get to that age without being able to hold your own in the fight for survival, and so threats from flora and fauna come thick and fast here. There are countless poisonous or menacingly thorned plants, notably the stinging tree or gimpie gimpie which is a beast of a nettle that can cause excruciatingly painful irritation lasting months or even years, or if you swallow the hairs can apparently cause laceration to your throat causing you to drown in your own blood. And to name just a few of the well known animals: red back spider, funnel web spider, paralysis tick - all potentially deadly. On the snake front we have taipans, brown snakes, death adders - also deadly. Saltwater crocodiles, the largest in the world and misleadingly happy in fresh or salt water or anything in between - also deadly. The cassowary, a beautiful prehistoric bird - ranked as the most dangerous bird on the planet with its tendency to attack humans by issuing a lashing strike with their talons that match the size of a grizzly bearโ€™s claw - also potentially deadly. With such a prestigious introduction it would be rude to come here and not take on some kind of survival challenge, so here I am armed with only a leatherman and a lighter trying not to cause any harm to this incredible environment, and in return hoping the environment doesnโ€™t cause any harm to me!

Been a while since I plugged this, and where better to leave a copy as a gift to fellow travellers than the part of the world that inspired so much of it. Take this photo as a hint of the setting for the sequel which is now very much in progress! ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ“š 'The Diamond Falls' available on Amazon - link in bio. ๐Ÿโ›ฐ๐Ÿ’Ž
