By NatGeo photographer @massimobassano in Morocco Photography Expeditions *** Nothing like dromedaries and sunset can tell us the infinity story of nomads of the desert. The connection between the "ship of the desert" (as the dromedary is named since centuries) and the humans is much more ancient that we can barely imagine. It's like a long lasting infinity dream. Year by year, I'm never tired to photograph such iconic image. *** #natgeotravel #natgeoinspires #natgeoadventure #natgeo #morocco🇲🇦 #dromedary #camel #dunes #ergchebbi #nomads #shipofthedesert #travelphotography #sunset

This photo is an accurate depiction of how I feel about all the noise on social media these days. ⠀ In 2017 the lack of authenticity on this platform was the first big shift I noticed, and from copycat content to selfish behavior, using this app for inspiration and connection quickly became a lost art. Then money was thrown into the equation. I’m all for creative ads, but seeing folks trash the planet just to produce tacky sponsored content really rubbed me the wrong way. On top of that, it is absolutely shameful that big brands cater to this and don’t seem to care about laws or doing what’s right. ⠀ These days, I have different concerns. I’ve had it with the sanctimonious screaming from a “woke” digital generation that loves to consume, but very rarely does anything to nurture the causes they claim to support. I’m guilty of buying into it every so often; after all, it’s like junk food — irresistible and satisfying. In some cases it can help raise initial awareness, but it doesn’t promote the right long-term solutions. Sometimes I feel like I’m founding member of call-out culture in the outdoor space, because I used to do it quite often, and with a ferocity that scared people into submission. I was convinced it was the best way to create change…until I realized it wasn’t. ⠀ Lately I’ve examined the time I spend on this app (and my expectations…), because it has distanced me from my passions and likeminded people, and I feel like I’m failing. I’ve created my dream career with the help of social media and I made more money last year than the previous two, but what’s the point if no one actually listens to what I have to say? Am I *really* succeeding? Or would my time be better spent working for an environmental nonprofit? This winter I’ll be writing more and researching/planning projects that are in line with my interests and values, and I don’t know how it’s going to pan out. But I need a change, I need to feel something and I think I’m capable of making this work. ⠀ I’ll still post whatever/whenever I want, but I am slowly accepting the reality that Instagram is no longer the best way for me to grow as a person, or as a professional.
